So, to keep it short and sweet, here is what’s going on:
We moved out meeting to every other week on Friday mornings at 8:30am, same place, Mixx 96 conference room. The next meeting is November 7th!
The City is very interested in wide-spread community involvement with the upcoming Comp Plan revisions in 2011.
Many aspects will have to be considered and reworked and a new roadmap will have to be put in place to help Olympia move into the next decades with the focus on smart growth, sustainability and focus on the community.
Next year the FEMA climate change flood level forecasts could have an impact on Downtown.
There are some great tools out there that allow the community to be involved, from Training sessions and conferences to online 3-D software tools to the often talked about charrette.
We will consider all those elements in trying to participate in this planning process and will keep the community updated on what is going on and how to participate.
*Disclaimer:
mathias eichler wrote this summary and I I’m very new at this “city planning thing”. A diverse group of people has been meeting regularly to discuss Downtown issues that range from parking, housing, “isthmus-gate” to marketing. One of the aspects we’ve been focusing on is the future development possiblities of Downtown as a neighborhood. I apologize if I misinterpreted some of the things we talked about or used some of the wrong terms or words - I’m new at this, sorry.
