Olympia City Council candidate Jim Cooper sits down with “You Make Olympia” host Mathias Eichler for an election season chat about “game-changing” decisions the city can make toward developing a destination at mouth of the Deschutes River. Stephen Buxbaum, candidate for Olympia mayor
Olympia mayoral candidate Stephen Buxbaum sat down for a relaxed chat with “You Make Olympia” host Mathias Eichler about development, urban housing, when to say “no” and challenging the city to be carbon neutral.
Buxbaum was elected to the Olympia City Council in 2009 and has served in Washington state government as assistant director for housing, managing director for community development and executive director of the Rural Development Council.

Rogers is an Olympia city councilwoman and works for the Washington State Liquor Control Board as a rules coordinator and policy specialist. She also serves on the City of Olympia Utility Advisory Committee and the Thurston County Planning Commission.

Nathaniel Jones joined “You Make Olympia” in a discussion about doorbelling, grilling, tourism in Olympia, urban living and which problems are most important to tackle in Olympia’s next four years. Jones is running for City Council Position No. 3, currently held by Rhenda Strub.
He has worked at General Administration for the past six years, including as staff to the Capitol Lake committee and being in charge of completing the Law Enforcement Memorial and Heritage Park.
Steve Langer, Olympia City Council candidate
Kicking off an ongoing series of personal interviews with Olympia City Council candidates, Steve Langer joined “You Make Olympia” host Mathias Eichler for a conversation about shaking up downtown, promoting tourism and challenging residents to make their city “green.”
Langer is an existing member of Olympia’s City Council, appointed in June 2010 to fill Position 7 when it was vacated by Joe Hyer. He is running for the council seat Craig Ottavelli will vacate, which includes a four-year term.

The German and British family started their trip in Vancouver, B.C. and is biking along the West Coast en route to South America in a worldwide family vacation that will end in Germany before their oldest son starts school.

Alpine Experience’s Urban Adventure
“Live Life Loud” host Mathias Eichler met Alpine Experience’s challenge Saturday to tackle a list of urban adventures as part of the outdoor retailer’s kick-off event in its “Go Outside and Play” series. The challenge called for Mathias to scale The Rock Gym’s climbing walls, sprint to the top of the Capitol Building steps and snap shots at a handful of downtown Olympia locations.
The episode follows him in his quest to complete his checklist, play throughout town and sneak some eats off Alpine Experience’s grill.

Longtime Olympia cook Kenny Trobman opened the doors Friday to his new Mediterranean deli, The Gyro Spot, for its grand opening in downtown.
