New Audible Cross-walk Helpers In Downtown
The City of Olympia tries new audible crosswalk helpers and installed them at my intersection on State and Washington and other intersections close to the transit station. They are meant to beep all day long! Yes, all, f^*&&ing day long! The beeping is not supposed alert blind people that they ‘can’ cross, but direct them to where the buttons are installed. Contrary to any other audible crosswalk helpers I ever encountered. When the button is actually pressed a electronic voice guides people to wait or cross on the specific street.
This means there is a loud, annoying, ongoing beep 24 hours a day.
Talk about noise pollution in downtown. Can you imagine if people would actually live in this downtown? It would drive people crazy. I just sit in my studio 10 hours a day, right next to the intersection and if it gets unbearable can move my office out of downtown.
Who makes those kind of decision?
